Seems like only yesterday it was Mother’s Day, doesn’t it?!
Whether it’s your Dad, Stepdad, Adopted Dad, significant other, brother, Uncle or Grandfather, Father’s Day on the 18th of June is a day for us to celebrate the men in our lives! Now I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve personally always had trouble buying gifts for Dad – for a time it even got to a point where I would buy him the same gift every year because he has a huge obsession with cufflinks!
I think men are just difficult to shop for in general; they either buy whatever it is they want with their own money anyway, or they are incredibly vague with what they want. My Dad is normally suited and booted and always likes to look formal and presentable, so in this instance, I knew he’d appreciate a good fragrance; you really cannot go wrong with a fragrance gift, can ya?
For those of us having trouble with finding Father’s Day gift ideas, let Fragrance Direct help you out. This year, they have a Father’s Day gifts quiz to help you find out what fragrance to get for ole’ Papa. Now, I already know that JOOP is one of my Father’s all time favourite fragrances so that was a given, however after taking the quiz, I decided on a couple more, so let’s talk about them shall we?
JOOP launched their new fragrance in early 2017 and is available in 40ml, 60ml, and 100ml. The original JOOP scent has long been one of my favourite male fragrances as it always reminds me of my Dad, so I was excited to get him another fragrance in their collection. The fragrance is a combination of Bergamot, cardamom, and violet, and has quite an aromatic scent whilst still maintaining the traditional JOOP Homme notes of Mandarin Orange and vanilla. The cologne is very fresh and would be perfect for a guy who likes woody scents.
What stood out to me about this fragrance was the bottle first and foremost; it’s quite weighty and statuesque and the fragrance is light lilac in colour which adds a touch of regality and finesse to the overall product. The bottle comes in three sizes of 30ml, 50ml, and 90ml and was released in late 2013. The tagline of the fragrance says it is meant for ‘the worldly and refined man who demands the very best’. Now I don’t know about you guys, but I tend to ignore the bylines of fragrances and who they are ‘meant’ for because it all depends on your personal preferences right?
So onto the scent; initial notes include Calabrian Bergamot, aniseed, French lavender and Tunisian Orange Blossom with ‘masculine’ base notes of Patchouli, amber, and leather. It’s quite a spicy/fresh scent and reminds me of the scents I would smell from men working in the City. A refined and sophisticated scent for a refined and sophisticated man (or ANY man tbh!).
The last fragrance we have is The Scent by men’s fave, Hugo Boss. The Scent is available in three sizes of 50ml, 100ml and 200ml and has a gorgeous amber toned liquid encased in a metal chamber.
If we are analysing the bottle alone, there’s something about the fragrance that screams ‘confidence’. The bottle is minimal, yet powerful and it lets the liquid do the talking with its gorgeous, vibrant colour. It is another spicy and fresh scent, with notes of ginger, bergamot and Mandarin Orange, with base notes consisting of leather and subtle woody notes. Overall, it is a powerful, rich and full bodied aroma – perfect if your Dad/other half is a bit of a ‘lad’!
So there we have it. I hope you guys have found this post useful and perhaps have a bit of an idea of what to get Dad for Father’s Day! Make sure you take the Father’s Day Gift Guide quiz on the Fragrance Direct website to find the perfect match for him! Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to order *yet more* cufflinks for Daddy *sigh*.
