Talking Hair Care | Keracare Shampoo & Conditioner

When it comes to products specialised for Afro-Caribbean hair, we often turn to our local Afro-Caribbean hair and beauty shop or some niche online store stocking ‘urban’ products, so every once in a while it’s refreshing to see mainstream stores (both physical and online) stock products suitable for us. A brand that has been available within the mainstream stores for a while is Keracare.

Look Fantastic Keracare

Keracare have an extensive range of hair care products, ranging from natural hair products, to products for relaxed (chemically straightened hair), itchy/flaky scalp to a host of styling products, there is guaranteed to be something out there to suit someone’s needs and are considered to be of premium quality. I remember when I would visit the salon, using Keracare products would always significantly impact the price of what I was having done. I always personally found the brand quite hard to get a hold of commercially as they were so sought after: people would snap them up so it’s great that they are now available on Look Fantastic!

Keracare Hydrating Detangling Shampoo || 240 ml || £4.45

With hair as thick as mine, a good detangling shampoo is absolutely needed, especially when paired with a tangle teezer and a generous dollop of patience. I’m always very wary of brushing or combing my hair when wet as I get anxious that I may be pulling my hair out, however this shampoo is extremely mild and works to relax my hair to the point where my comb glides through my hair with ease. The light formula gently cleans the hair without it being too stripping of my hair’s natural oils, and it also has a pleasant aroma which is always good!

Keracare Humetco Creme Conditioner || 234 g || £6.15

First off, can I start by saying how UHH-MAZING this conditioner smells?! I honestly spent a full 10 minutes sniffing the bottle before I used it (judge me), and I was blown away; it’s a mixture of marzipan and sweet popcorn; all the noms.

ANYHOO onto the actual product, the conditioner works to hydrate and and correct moisture loss due to chemical exposure and thermal styling appliances. The conditioner also works to prevent breakage, which is something long associated with chemically straightened hair such as mine. I leave the conditioner on for 15-20 minutes, then rinse out and dry. I’ve heard from others who have used this conditioner that it improves the elasticity of the hair over time, so I will keep monitoring my hair texture over the next couple of months to see how it fares.

Have you used Keracare products? What are your favourites?

I was sent these products for review. All opinions are my own, as usual!

    Great post Steph. I do love a bit of KeraCare, especially the Humecto Conditioner! x

  • I’ve only ever used the curling custard (or whatever it’s called) for my weave but I’m definitely checking out the conditioner, because I am in desperate need of a new one for my natural hair. So thanks for the heads up x
