Fashion Fair Beauty Highlighter – Golden Lights

Fashion Fair has always been a staple in my household for as long as I can remember. Back in the early 90s when hardly any brands catered for black women, Fashion Fair cosmetics was the go-to brand for my Mother and the other female members of my family.

To be completely honest, Fashion Fair had never been on my radar when it came to shopping for the latest makeup finds; the packaging and branding of the products I felt appealed more to consumers within my Mother’s demographic than mine, however It seems that over the years they have had a bit of a rebranding (specifically the font of the brand name) and have changed some of their formulas around.

Today we’re talking about the Fashion Fair Beauty Highlighter in Golden Lights* which I was kindly sent by the Fashion Fair team while on a quest to find dark skin-friendly highlighters. In terms of the packaging, aesthetically there isn’t much to be said; the brand have kept the same copper/brown colour theme they have always had, but have changed the font as I stated above, which I actually quite like! It’s a lot more modern than the serif that used to be in place. In my opinion, serif font has NO place on makeup packaging, but that’s just me!

The actual powder is described as ‘a multi purpose shimmer powder which adds a gentle glow’.
The powder is a light copper, almost rose gold in colour and is very finely milled;
we love a good finely milled powder over here so the texture alone gets
a big thumbs up from me. The texture is also pretty soft, almost
cream-like and applies/blends effortlessly into the skin, which great
pigmentation. I’ve found that light hands are needed upon application,
as it’s very easy to be transformed into ‘disco ball circa 1976’ and
nobody wants that LOL.
So
far I’ve only really used it along the top of my “cheekbones”, so I
can’t comment on the multi-usage yet, however you can bet that I’ll be
having fun trying it out this Summer. I’ve been on such a highlighter
frenzy since discovering that I could ACTUALLY wear them and not look
like Krusty the Clown and I’d definitely say that the Golden Lights
highlighter is up there with one of my favourites already. Price point
wise, I think the product is worth the £16 as you get more bang for your
buck; because it’s so pigmented, only a little is needed. This is a
shade that I feel would suit most, if not all skin tones and is very
dark-skinned friendly! Why don’t you give it a go?

Available from £16.00 at Debenhams.
